HA1 Height Safety and Harness Appreciation

Height Safety and Harness Appreciation training is a half-day course, usually lasting between two to four hours. The course takes place in a classroom or training facility, with a maximum intake of ten delegates per class, and is recommended for all persons who may be required to control or make use of fall protection systems (i.e. operatives, managers, supervisors).

The course aims to improve the attendees’ awareness of the basic hazards present when working at height, as well as the correct operating and inspection procedures of harnesses, lanyards and connectors. Delegates will develop a sound knowledge of anchorage points, fall arrest blocks, and vertical and horizontal systems. They will also study all current UK legislation relevant to working at height, and be trained in hands on methods of inspecting equipment.

In addition to classroom study there is also a practical portion of the course, which involves inspection awareness with hands on training.

Final assessment will be in the form of a written and practical exam. Upon successful completion of the training and assessment, delegates will be presented with a certificate confirming their passing of a Competent Height Awareness course including inspection and documentation of relevant personal protective equipment. This certificate will be valid for two years from the date of issue.
