CP1 Confined Space Entrant and Topman (Vertical Entry)

Confined Space Entrant and Topman training takes place over two days, though more experienced individuals may request a one day refresher course. Training is provided at the customer’s sites or training facility and intake is between six and eight people per class. The course is suitable for any persons whose work involves entry into a confined space or carrying out of ‘topman’ duties, thus requiring specific knowledge of the Confined Space Regulations (1997).

The course’s aim is to help attendees develop awareness and identify basic hazards that are present when working in confined spaces, as well as the correct procedures and inspection of equipment. Delegates will become familiar with the Water UK Administrative Controls for Confined Spaces, including the classification list, risk assessments, safe system of work, rescue plans and permit to work.

Delegates will be shown how to use various templates to assess risks on a dynamic basis, carry out a pre-use inspection and demonstrate an ability to correctly select and use the appropriate equipment. Delegates will also learn how to judge team sizes in the event of needing to plan more complex operations.

Final examination involves planning an entry, operating in the space, leaving, closing down the space and then reporting. The delegate’s ability to inspect and operate equipment will also be specifically assessed.

Upon successful completion of the assessments a certificate will be issued to confirm the delegate’s passing of a Confined Space Entrant and Topman course. This certificate will be valid for three years from the course date.
